BOTOX Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX Cosmetic Injections

We have been one of the top injectors of BOTOX Cosmetic in the North Houston area and has one of the largest client retention rates because patients see consistent results. BOTOX injections are safe and virtually non-invasive.

Until mid-2009, It was the only treatment of its type approved by the FDA. Dr. Bishai performs injection treatments in his office daily.

What is BOTOX and what does it do?

BOTOX is a prescription medicine of purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, called onabotulinumtoxinA. In late 2009, Allergan began differentiating BOTOX (for non-cosmetic purposes) and BOTOX Cosmetic (for cosmetic purposes).

Both prescriptions are the same compound and the same derivation of medication, but they are promoted differently. For our purposes, we only use BOTOX Cosmetic but simply refer to the treatment as BOTOX.

BOTOX injections are used cosmetically to reduce the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines, crow’s feet, horizontal lines in the forehead, and the hard “11’s” between your brows. The treatment temporarily stops these muscles from contracting, which smoothes the lines and wrinkles on your face.
Though used infrequently, small amounts of it can be administered at the corners of the mouth to raise them or injected into the chin to stop dimpling and the “orange peel” look. Results typically last 3-4 months.

BOTOX can also be injected into the underarms to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) when topical medications don’t work well enough. Dr. Bishai performs these types of injections, as well as BOTOX for cosmetic purposes.

Any questions about the use of BOTOX to treat hyperhidrosis and the specifications of this treatment, including cost, can be discussed with Dr. Bishai or a Medical Assistant at your appointment or by calling our office – full details are not discussed on this website.

Where is BOTOX used?

It is used at our office for:

  • Softening frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet
  • Relaxing deep wrinkles between the brows, which are sometimes called “11s”
  • Lifting the brow and opening the eyes
  • Raising the corners of the mouth
  • Stopping chin dimpling or “orange peel” look
  • Stopping excessive underarm and palm sweating

What is the treatment like?

All injections are performed by Dr. Bishai. At your first visit, you will meet with Dr. Bishai and his assistant to discuss the treatment and sign a consent. Though the injections are not painful, patients have the option to apply a small amount of topical anesthetic cream to the injection sites and can also opt to have a machine that blows cold air used during the procedure.

Dr. Bishai will administer the injections using a very small needle. He may have you raise and lower your eyebrows and wrinkle and crease your forehead so he can better determine the appropriate injection sites for the BOTOX.

The procedure takes less than 15 minutes to perform. If needed, you will be given small icepacks to apply post-treatment to lessen any possible bruising. Some patients experience small “bee stings” at each injection site, but these should dissipate within an hour. When you leave, you will have no downtime and can return to normal activities immediately.

Botox

Each patient has a choice to receive 25 or 50 units of BOTOX. 25 units are most often used to treat only the “11s”, the deep wrinkles between the brows. A full treatment is 50 units, which treats the forehead, between the brows, and the sides of each eye (crow’s feet). Nearly all patients opt for a full treatment.

What kind of results can I expect from treatment?

BOTOX results generally give patients a relaxed and youthful appearance. Where the BOTOX was administered, you can expect to see a smoothing of lines and a loss of tension in those muscles. Results typically begin to appear within days and should be fully noticeable after 10 days.

Touch-ups or additional BOTOX injections will not be administered until 10 days have passed so full effects can take place. Patients who consistently receive it may notice it takes a bit longer to kick in after each treatment. This is normal, but no additional injections should be done until the 10 days have passed. The results last approximately 3-4 months.
